L'Assomption, March 25, 2024 - Sébastien Nadeau Sébastien Nadeaumayor of the Ville de L'Assomptionprefect of the MRC de L'Assomption and president ofAgtech as well as Marilou Cyr, General Managerare pleased to announce that one of Canada's leading agri-science and agri-technology innovation centers is now open for business. Canada will be built in L'Assomption. This innovation center is one of the cornerstones of the 4-square-kilometer ecosystem dedicated to agtech and plant bioproducts being developed in the MRC de l'Assomption.
The investment announced by the Quebec government last Friday will support companies and innovation teams dedicated to developing innovative clean technologies to meet the challenges facing the agricultural sector.
An innovation center open to all innovative companies in Quebec
Awarded to Agtech, this investment of nearly 41,7M$ has two objectives: (1) to relocate the activities of CIEL, an applied agricultural research center specializing in integrated pest management for horticultural crops, which has been in operation since 1997; and (2) to build an innovation center open to all of Quebec's innovative companies. Québec which require fully-equipped laboratories, technology workshops, conference rooms and training facilities. Companies and research teams in Québec will thus have access to specialized agroscience and agritechnology infrastructure and equipment, such as pre-emptive arms, growth chambers, wet labs, drones and much more, to conduct their research and development work.
The premises will also be used to create and accelerate businesses, deliver specialized training and innovation programs, host delegations of international buyer missions, and demonstrate technologies in showrooms to facilitate the transition of solutions to agricultural producers.

Agtech is a non-profit organization created to bring together, propel and promote Quebec's agtech and plant bioproducts companies, both in Quebec and internationally. It is supported by the MRC de L'Assomption region and its five constituent towns, the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences ofUniversité Lavalthe CCTT Network Network, Network, Synchronex, and major players involved in the agricultural transition and carbon sobriety, including Sobeys / IGA Québec, Harnois Industries, Axceta Technologies and Hypertec Group. Agtech has already demonstrated its impact as it now brings together one of Canada's largest agtech communities, welcomes over 600 visitors a year to its events and has supported more than 150 Québec in their technological development applied to the agricultural and plant bioproducts sector.
It also enjoys a growing international reputation, as it embarks on collaborative projects with Morocco and Franceand plans to host more than 100 companies and innovation teams by 2026 on the 4 million square feet of industrial space dedicated to this strategic sector.
