L’Assomption RCM, September 22, 2026– Construction has officially begun on a new industrial building at the former Electrolux site in L’Assomption. Developed by the Riendeau Group, this project represents an investment of $20 million and will provide space for two new companies within the Agtech Zone: Serlan and Ferme Boréa.
The new industrial building will offer a total of 88,690 square feet, divided into two phases, including spaces occupied by Serlan and Ferme Boréa, as well as 27,500 square feet of leasable space still available for new businesses. These spaces are intended primarily for organizations operating in the agri-food, agricultural technology and equipment, and plant-based bioproducts sectors.
The first phase of the project represents an investment of $15 million and covers 62,500 square feet, while the second phase will add 26,190 square feet at a cost of $5 million. The facilities are scheduled to open between December 2026 and April 2027.
“The closure of Electrolux sent shockwaves through our community. That site had long been an economic driver for our city, and many residents still have vivid memories of it. Seeing it come back to life today thanks to new companies that are helping shape the future of food, agriculture, and the agri-food industry is excellent news for L’Assomption. This project demonstrates our ability to turn challenges into opportunities for growth and to attract investments that will drive our future,” said Sébastien Nadeau, mayor of L’Assomption.
“The start of construction on this new industrial building marks a concrete step forward in the development of our ecosystem. The arrival of Serlan and Fermes Boréa illustrates the diversity of companies we hope to welcome and support within the Agtech Zone. Although their activities are different, they both contribute to the evolution of Quebec’s agri-food value chain. This project also underscores the importance of having the right infrastructure in place to enable innovative companies to establish themselves and continue to grow,” said Marilou Cyr, Executive Director of the Agtech Zone.
“We are particularly proud to contribute to the revitalization of a site that has long played an important role in the economic history of L’Assomption. The start of construction marks a new phase in the transformation of this site and in our commitment to regional development. “We wanted to create an industrial building capable of hosting businesses that share a vision of innovation, sustainability, and growth. The arrival of Serlan and Ferme Boréa is the first tangible step toward realizing this ambition,” adds Éric Sansregret, Vice President of Finance at Groupe Riendeau.
The new industrial building will house Serlan, which provides packaging services to businesses, particularly in the agri-food sector. The company also promotes the professional integration of people with disabilities as part of its operations.
It will also be home to Ferme Boréa, which is developing a project for the sustainable farming of white shrimp using a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). The company is receiving support from Zone Agtech in developing its project, and with this new facility, it will take another step toward launching production operations in L’Assomption.
The presence of these two companies in the same building illustrates the diversity of activities that can take place within the Agtech Zone. Their distinct areas of expertise help strengthen Quebec’s agri-food value chain and address various challenges related to production, processing, and sustainable development.
The closure of the Electrolux factory had a profound impact on the community of L’Assomption and left vacant a site that had long contributed to the region’s economic vitality. The start of construction on a new industrial building marks an important step in the transformation of this location and in the return of economic activity to the site.
This new construction project is part of the Agtech Zone’s development initiative and helps strengthen the region’s capacity to attract innovative companies in the agriculture and agri-food sectors.
The land and building are being developed, constructed, and managed by the Riendeau Group, which will also handle the leasing of the spaces. With this project, the company is investing in modern infrastructure designed to meet the needs of growing organizations and contribute to the region’s economic development. The building will offer a total of 88,690 square feet, including space allocated to Serlan and Fermes Boréa, as well as 27,500 square feet still available for new businesses.
These spaces offer an opportunity for organizations in the agri-food, agricultural technology and equipment, and plant-based bioproducts sectors that wish to establish themselves in an environment where innovation, collaboration, and close ties with industry stakeholders are key assets for their growth.
